Introduction
“The Integration of landless peasants”mainly refers to the farmers in the process of urbanization, after losing land, becoming urban residents with adaptation to city life and adjustment process in the aspects of economy, culture, community, psychology. In this study, based on the real background of the urbanization in Kunming, three communities are selected as the research subjects, using a combination of research methods including interview surveys and in-depth observation are adopted, and field and habitus in Bourdieu's theoretical framework are used to analyze the integration strategy of landless peasants in economic, cultural, community and psychological aspects, and then to probe the current situation of their current situation.
In this thesis,Bourdieu's habitus and field theory is introduced, through learning action strategies as well as field characters and conversion of actors,to analyze urban integration state of the landless peasants.Landless peasants have to adapt to the new environment, making it necessary to adjust their own state as a response by habitus strategy, and aim to obtain corresponding capital and convert it into interest in the new infrastructure system so that they can better advance the integration process. At the same time, landless peasants in the integration process have the strategic choice habitus, which has not only the connotation of rational choice, but also the significance of the non-rational choice.
In the aspect of economic integration, there is a game for economic interest between landless peasants and the other interest groups.During this process, they are not necessarily passive recipients, but do employ the appropriate action strategies as rational choice to fight for their own more economic capital.Sometimes they choose to avoid the risk or take some drastic actions that seem irrational. These choices are thoughtful action.Their ultimate goal is to gain maximal income and to accumulate economic capital.
Cultural capital has an important effect on cultural integration of the landless peasants.Landless peasants actively seek institutionalized cultural capital and fight at all costs for the next generation to get cultural resources;meanwhile, landless peasants have been constantly adjusting their own ability in cultural capital.Due to the impact of farmers' own traditional culture, cultural qualities, lifestyle and concepts, they still can not meet the citizen development to some extent. But the mutative field also drive habit to be constantly“adaptation”,making landless peasants not a“useless”in front of the“new environment”urbanization. They always take their own positive policies and actions to deal with a variety of“adjustment”,moving the footsteps to be citizen through effort.
Landless peasants experiencing the integration of social integration process show a variety of inadaptability such as a narrow and closed social support network, low community participation,a weak sense of social belonging. On the surface the negative performance of urban life, but in fact is an active return to weigh the interests of landless peasants through the post.In fact,Nurture and build social capital is to build social relationships and support networks play an important factor in their communities, therefore, this book put forward construct social capital through various channels and methods for landless peasants.
These are results from“return policy”selected by landless farmers, enables the integration in the social psychology of the landless peasants presenting a“reverse development trend”.The superficially negative performance to city life is,in fact,an active regression of the landless peasants.
In the aspect of psychology integration, brought the villagers a sense of belonging is not strong for the transition of the space environment;different lifestyles, values and interests of the city to enjoy, making the most of the three communities of landless peasants who do not identity their urban environment and are more willing to“return”to the farmers' groups in which find their own identity; The current is not conducive to the development of landless peasants reflected strong psychological dependence, poor ability to resist risks, social imbalances psychology; In social life satisfaction and adaptability, they will have the tendencies of being“marginalized”,and happiness coexist with a sense of crisis.
For this study, the main findings and conclusions are obtained:firstly, landless peasants of three communities in Kungming have differential and progressive development characters in the economic, cultural, social and psychological dimensions;secondly, the theory of Bourdieu's field and habitus analysis tools are employed to further investigate integration into the situation.First of all,the process of urbanization promotes the field changes, one important factor for which being the elimination divergence due to resource inequality between the urban-rural groups. This change gives landless peasants good and benefits, making the majority of them very willing to be landless;secondly, the book argues that the city integration has an essence of“the field adaptation”of landless peasants, expressing that the participants take different habitus action strategies for obtaining more interest capital so that they could better integrate into the city life.In addition, this“habit action strategy”comes from a long-term habit generated and real demand to make choices,at most times, landless peasants show their own“rational smallholder”thinking and sometimes their traditional concepts.
In this regard, this book argues that government policy should be from the macro policy, mico social organizations and various groups involved,as well as help landless peasants to promote their own ability, quality, and cultural enhancement to further help and support farmers, enabling them to better integrate into the urban life.
And proposed community will be a starting point and mainstream;the“landless peasants Ⅱ”will be the mainstream peasants integration into the cities;future life will be as the impact of policy, environmental and personal factors appear three levels(upper, middle and lower)populations in different development trend.
